Facilities that need PPE

We are seeking assistance from our members in identifying hospitals and other facilities that have bulk PPE needs.  We have onboarded 1 manufacturer that is capable of producing 30,000 masks per week, and we have several other manufacturers that are ready to meet similar demand requirements.  Our current cost structure is enabling us to offer 10,000 masks for $25,000 plus shipping.  If there are health care providers that are interested in procuring Origami masks at this volume and pricing…

Seeking Assistance - Testing Facilities & Processes

We are aiming to have the Origami Mask classified as a Surgical Respirator.  This status will provide healthcare workers a higher level of confidence in the product's safety and efficacy.  In order to achieve this classification, we need to pass a series of tests.  Below is a table that illustrates the tests that we need to complete, including those that are required for the Surgical Respirator.                       We are awaiting results from Nelson Labs for several of the tests listed…

Sterilization Methods

Some members have asked about the appropriate sterilization methods to use with the origami masks.  Our team has not conducted sterilization validation procedures.  However, the suggested material (sterilization wrap) is intended for autoclave use.  This would be our recommended sterilization method.  Some people have asked about microwaving and using a washing machine -- these methods are likely to result in material breakdown and reduced performance.

Die Cutters - Seeking Resources

One of the ideas to accelerate manufacturing of these masks is to leverage a die-cutter to create the flat patters with pre-creases in-place.  This would significantly reduce the time required to cut and fold each of the units.  Are there any good die cutting resources out there that might be a good fit for this project?  If so, please reply to this thread and/or bring these resources into the Forum.  Thanks!

Head Strap Alternative

We are exploring some different options for securing the mask to the head while providing adjustability, and I am hoping to get some feedback. The original design was using 2 rubber bands, each band wrapping around an ear.  The challenge with this concept is that a.) it is uncomfortable for long use, b.) a single-size rubber band would be too loose for small head sizes and too tight for large head sizes, and c.) the bands break with excessive tension, and d.) it looks very homebrew.   The…

Material options

We have received many questions regarding the ideal material options to use for the Origami Mask.  We are still exploring options, but our top recommendation at present is sterilization wrap.  This material is widely used in hospitals for sterilizing surgical devices and other reusable medical instrumentation.  Here is a link to Halyard's sterilization wrap.  HALYARD STERILIZATION WRAP Other manufacturers make similar products, and most have published data regarding filtration properties, air…
